Turquoise blue is predicted to be the color of 2010.    According to The Pantone Color Institute "people crave escapism and freshness after a tough year. The shade is on the cusp of blue and green, which makes it both inviting and serene – characteristics associated with blues – and invigorating and luminous, which comes from green."  In case you care.

 

Gang Green

New York Jets Fullback Tony Richardson will be speaking to New Rochelle High School students about his athletic career and about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.  Richardson’s appearance on December 15, 9-10am,  is the result of students winning a regional  "NFL Fuel Up to Play 60" promotion, sponsored by the American Dairy Council.  The school had the most participants in the breakfast program in early November, and won an appearance of a NY Jets athlete to the school.

 

Be Green. Recycle Toys.

Do you have a barely used two-wheel bike with training wheels that a child might want for the holidays?  How about a video game that’s collecting dust?  These are just a few examples of the kinds of things that can be listed on Westchester County’s Treasure Hunt website at www.westchestergov.com/treasures .  
The site is a free informational data bank, listing used household items like furniture, kitchen and garden appliances, office equipment and children’s toys.  Items are listed free for one week, no money can be charged for the items and recipients are responsible for pickup. You can also donate your no-longer-wanted items on the site.

Above the Green

The wonders of the December sky are the subject of the "Season of Light" FREE Planetarium Show at New Rochelle High School.  Shows are Saturday December 19 at 4pm and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday December 21-23 at 7pm.  The NRHS Planetarium is located at the corner of Flandreau and Argyll Roads at the corner of McKenna Field.  For more information, contact Bruce Zeller at the NRHS planetarium, 914-576-4589.  

 

Under the Green

Kids from the Mamaroneck Public Library’s Roots N Shoots – a Jane Goodall environmental group – were treated to a sneak peek of the new library’s "Green" construction.  Architect George Schieferdeck showed the group the types of low or non-maintenance plants that are used in constructing such an environmentally friendly project.  When completed, the new library facility is expected to receive a silver LEED rating or better.
