Car with 3 Babies Rolls Away

Ten-month old twin girls and their 2-year-old sister in the Town of Mamaroneck escaped serious injury when a car they were left alone in apparently crashed into a tree

and then the garage of their Forest Avenue home at about 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 10.

The girls were taken to Sound Shore Medical Center for observation and released.

Police said their mother told them she left the car running in the driveway, possibly with the transmission in reverse, and went into her home, leaving the three kids fastened into their car seats. When she heard a loud noise, she said she went outside to find the car up against the garage.

The driver said a witness told her that the car initially rolled in reverse from the driveway, and hit a tree. It then apparently rolled forward and struck the garage door.

  1. Thank goodness the kids were all right. I’m calling bs on this one though. If the car was in reverse and was an automatic she would have realized when she got out and the car was moving, if it was stick it would have stalled if she didn’t have her foot on the gas or the clutch. Had to be neutral or that rascally two year old was not in the car seat. I’m open to other possibilities…maybe it was a toyota and the accelerator stuck?
