Money for Art
Five Westchester arts organizions received a total of $35,000 from JP Morgan Chase as Capacity Building Awards for making an economic impact in their communities. Here are the recipients:
The Blue Door Art Association ($5,000) recently opened a new gallery in downtown Yonkers and has worked in conjunction with The Downtown Yonkers Waterfront BID to increase visitation to the area.
Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art ($7,500) led the bi-annual “Peekskill Project,” a public art festival that takes place in the streets of Peekskill, as well as recently opened a large-scale exhibit showcasing contemporary Dutch artists.
Jazz Forum Arts ($10,000) continued to provide free summer concerts throughout Westchester towns like Ardsley, Tarrytown, Irvington and its home, Dobbs Ferry—and encouraged residents to patronize local businesses prior to and following the concerts.
New Rochelle Council on the Arts ($5,000) put together “New Rochelle Arts Fest” this past October, which featured numerous events that could be accessed by a free trolley, bringing thousands of visitors to the area.
The Tarrytown Music Hall ($7,500) held dozens of performances and film showings year-round, proving to be a cultural anchor in Westchester, and provided abundant business to Tarrytown’s Main Street and surrounding area.
