Haitian Resident Plans Fundraiser

A Mamaroneck woman, a daughter of Haitian immigrants, has planned a fundraiser to benefit the crisis in Haiti to be held in Mamaroneck (at a new location) January 29.

Danielle Sajous Yergo says she has received support from corporate sponsors, including Greenbriar Equity Group LLC, a private equity firm based in Rye. Money raised at  "Cocktails for a Cause," will go to Partners In Health (PIH), which works to bring modern medical care to poor communities in nine countries around the world.

Yergo says she decided to act after failing to persuade the Rye Neck School District, where her three children attend school, to hold a fundraiser. After making her case at a Board of Education meeting this week, she says she was told it was against District policy.

Haiti has an enormous need for help following the devastation that occurred there last week. As President Obama put it, a ‘swift, coordinated and aggressive’ response is called for," she says.

“There are parents in this community that care about the crisis in Haiti,” she writes, “There are parents that genuinely want to help out, but like Haiti, they have no infrastructure."

Cocktails For A Cause is Friday, January 29 at 7:00pm at Molly Spillane’s restaurant in Mamaroneck.  Yergo says the initial response to the fundraiser was so great, she moved the event from a smaller venue in Larchmont. The suggested donation is $25 payable by check and made out to Partners In Health.
