Give Supplies: As Haiti’s rainy season approaches, Hommmocks eighth grader Matthew Donaghy is collecting shelter and survival supplies. The AFYA Foundation is helping to transport the supplies to Haiti. If you can donate anything on the below list,email mskdpt@optonline.net to arrange for pickup. The deadline is Friday March 12th:
Needed: Tents; Tarps; Sleeping Bags; Sleeping Mats; Flash Lights /Lanterns (solar powered or w/batteries); Camp Stoves / Cookware; Mess kits/Utensils; Rain Boots; Closed-toed Shoes; Rain Coats/Slickers/Umbrellas; DuffleBags; Blankets; Towels; Mosquito Repellant; and Hand Sanitizer.
Get a Haircut:
Gisele’s Salon in Larchmont sponsors a Hair for Haiti Cut-a-Thon, on Sunday, March 7th, from 10AM – 5PM. All cuts are $50, and all proceeds from this Event will go to "Midwives for Haiti" (a non-profit organization that sends certified nurse midwives to Haiti in order to teach essential skills to traditional birth attendants)
Habitat for Humanity Westchester recently raised $2500 to help in its commitment to build 100 homes in the earthquake-ravaged country. Donate now or email haiti@habitatwc.org.
Habitat’s corporate challenge is March 9th, noon, at the top of the Avalon East, 40 Memorial Highway, New Rochelle. Find out what Habitat’s been up to and how you can get involved.
And soon…nearly 300 college students will be descending upon New Rochelle and Mamaroneck to help rebuild homes that were damaged in the floods.
