CRIME OF THE WEEK: A 53-year-old New Rochelle man told Rye Police he was pulling out of the Kohl’s parking lot on Boston Post Road in Port Chester at about 10:45 p.m. when he was approached by three unknown males in a truck
who asked him for permission to repair the dents in his car. The man refused and headed south on Boston Post Road. The truck approached him again and he agreed to pull over to accept their business card. When both cars were stopped, the occupants of the truck got out and started to repair the dents. The complainant said he tried to stop them, but they refused. Upon completion of the work, they asked for $450. The man eventually gave them $50. The men asked for more money, and the complainant drove off. July 26

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
Police responded to Harbor Island Park at about 8:30 a.m. on a report of people sleeping in the grass near the Harbor Master’s office. The parties told police they had arrived at the park at about 7:30 and were merely resting. Police advised them that they were not allowed to sleep in the park overnight. July 20

BURGLARY
A woman was returning home to her Halstead Avenue apartment at about 3:15 p.m. when she noticed an unknown woman carrying two of her gold necklaces. The woman told police she grabbed the necklaces from the suspect, described as a blond with a tattoo wearing pink shorts and no shoes, who then fled. When the woman checked her apartment, she noticed $1,000 in cash was missing. July 22

A suspicious car was reported in the area of Hampshire Country Club at about 5 p.m. Police located the car on private property with nobody inside it. July 22
FORGERY
A man attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at O’Neill’s Country Store on Mamaroneck Avenue at about noon. Police said the man tried to buy cigarettes with the bill. When the clerk told him it was fake, the man fled. July 23
PROPERTY DAMAGE
A window was reported broken at Flintlock Construction on North Barry Avenue at about 10 a.m. After reviewing the surveillance tape, it was determined that the owner forgot his keys and broke the window to gain access. No further police action was required. July 23

A 19-year-old Larchmont girl was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding at about 5:30 p.m. on West Boston Post Road.
HIT AND RUN
A woman said she was exiting the Interstate 95 ramp at about 7:30 p.m. when she was struck from behind by a green or light blue van. The woman said the driver then fled south on Mamaroneck Avenue. July 23

A 22-year-old New Rochelle man was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at about 1:30 a.m. on Ogden Avenue. Police said the man failed to stop at a stop sign and was following another car too closely. July 25
FIGHT IN PROGRESS
Three individuals were involved in a fight on Halstead Avenue at about 10 a.m. Police said nobody wanted to press charges, and EMS was called for one man, who refused medical attention. July 25

A 45-year-old New York City man was being held at the Westchester County Jail awaiting extradition to Nevada after police received a report of a suspicious person at 300 West Boston Post Road at about 3 p.m. Police said they found a warrant for his arrest from Las Vegas when they ran his plates. DWI
A 23-year-old Village man was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident at about 10:45 p.m. on Rushmore Avenue. According to police, the man tried to flee after crashing his car into a tree, causing minor damage to the passenger side of his car. Police found the man hiding in some bushes. July 25

A 48-year-old New Rochelle man was arrested after a domestic dispute with his brother-in-law on Hillside Avenue. Police said the suspect pushed the 42-year-old victim and told him he was going to kill him. July 26

A man complained that youths were slamming their car doors at about 10:30 p.m. on Park Avenue. July 26
TOWN OF MAMARONECK
AUTO ACCIDENT
A 19-year-old Bronx woman was taken to Sound Shore Medical Center for evaluation after her 2004 Honda was struck by an 18-year-old Rye man driving a 2001 Chrysler at about 8:30 a.m. on Rockland Avenue. The man said he was going southeast on Rockland Avenue and lost control of his car at a sharp bend. The driver of the Honda said she was traveling northwest on Rockland Avenue and turning left onto McKenna Avenue when she was hit. She was transported to the hospital complaining of pain to her back. The man was not injured. July 20

Eight cartons of assorted cigarettes, valued at $800, were stolen from the CVS at 2444 Boston Post Road. Police said the unknown person entered the store and reached behind the counter, grabbed the cigarettes, and left. July 21
ASSAULT
Adam J. Steinberg, a 22-year-old Carol Lane resident, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, after allegedly getting into an altercation with a 20-year-old victim. According to police, the individuals were having a dispute over money. Police said the victim suffered a cracked jaw after trying to collect. July 22
CRIMINAL IMPERSONATION
The owner of Bartell Business Inc., located at 3 Washington Square, said an unknown person was using his business name to solicit participants in a shopping scheme. The business’ Web site says, "If you received a check with this company name, it is a fraud." July 22

A Mohegan Road resident said an unknown person painted graffiti on a garage door panel sometime between July 23 and July 24.
LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT
A Highridge Road resident said her son parked a 2009 Subaru belonging to a Byron Lane resident at the bottom of her driveway at about 9 p.m. on July 25. At about 10 a.m. the next morning, they noticed it had been hit by an unknown car, causing substantial damage to the fender and bumper on the passenger side. The matter is under investigation. A Roosevelt Avenue resident said numerous credit card accounts were opened in his and his wife’s names. July 20

A staff member at the Rye Recreation Center at 281 Midland Avenue said syringes were found in the parking lot in front of the main building. The syringes did not have needles attached. They were taken to police headquarters and disposed of in a medical waste container. July 21

A 48-year-old Greenwich, Conn., man was charged with unsafe backing of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at about 6 p.m. at Boston Post Road and Hillside Road. July 22
ASSIST CITIZEN
Responding to a report of an assault, police found an intoxicated 15-year-old Forest Avenue girl who had apparently been involved in an altercation with a 20-year-old Harrison woman. Police said the girl and an unknown friend were involved in a fight with the Harrison woman and her unknown friend when a 17-year-old Apawamis Avenue boy broke it up. The 15-year-old girl said she had consumed alcohol with her medication. EMS was called and one of her parents was notified. July 22

A 23-year-old Hickory Drive resident said she has been receiving threatening text messages from a former friend, who allegedly assaulted her the night before in White Plains. July 23

A 22-year-old Tarrytown woman was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding at about 8:30 p.m. on Midland Avenue. July 26
ASSIST CITIZEN
A woman and her dog were attacked by a pit bull on Theodore Fremd Avenue at about 10 p.m. According to police, a 17-year old boy was walking three dogs when the pit bull broke loose and charged the smaller dog. The boy yelled a warning to the woman, who picked up her dog and was knocked down by the pit bull. The woman refused treatment and told police on the scene that she was not bit by the dog. The boy suffered multiple scrapes to his arm from the leashes and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The matter is under investigation. July 26

A 63-year-old Pine Island Road woman was transported to Greenwich Hospital at about 9:47 a.m. after she was struck by a van while riding her bicycle on Pine Island Road. The woman fell off her bike as a result of the collision and hit her head on the pavement. July 27

A Rock Creek Lane resident said her dog was attacked by another dog at about 8:15 a.m. According to police, the woman was walking her dog and a neighbor’s dog broke free from its owner. The woman suffered scratches and the dog was bitten several times. The animal control officer reported that the attacking dog had all its papers in order and its shots were up to date.

The woman said she struck her face on the curb, fracturing her nose and damaging her left orbital socket. She was taken by her son to White Plains Hospital. July 25

A Helena Ave resident reported on 7/23 that a bicycle, valued at $300, was removed from the rear yard of the residence.
