Mamaroneck Village Police Chief Edward E. Flynn is retiring at the end of next month.

 

GRAND LARCENY
A 39-year-old woman said jewelry worth about $7,500 went missing during a move into her West Garden Road home.  The woman said the jewelry had been packed in a book bag, and she noticed it was gone when she arrived at her new home. August 7

DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED
A 24-year-old Revere Road man was arrested for DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after he lost control of his 1996 Mazda and crashed into a utility pole and two parked cars at about 2 a.m. on Harmon Drive. The man was transported to Sound Shore Medical Center for evaluation for an injury to his head. August 7

LEAVING THE SCENE
A Harrison man said an unknown car hit his 2001 Chevrolet van in the parking lot of Excelsior Cleaners at 1320 Boston Post Road. August 11

BURGLARY
A Hillcrest Avenue resident said an unknown person broke into his home through a rear door sometime between July 31 and August 9. No property was missing, but the suspect had allegedly displaced items in the master bedroom.

BURGLARY
A Fernwood Road resident said a Mac computer, valued at $1,500, and assorted jewelry, valued at $2,000, were taken from her home sometime between Aug. 7 and Aug. 13. Police said entry to the home was gained through a window in the rear of the home. The matter remains under investigation.

MENACING
A 47-year-old Valhalla man was charged with menacing after allegedly threatening a family member with a knife inside a Villa Road home. August 13

PETTY LARCENY
A man tried to take more than $60 worth of groceries from Stop and Shop at 1326 Boston Post Road at about 11 a.m. According to police, the man tried to exit through the self-checkout lane without paying when he was stopped by a store employee. The man fled the scene and no arrests have been made. August 15

ARMED ROBBERY ATTEMPT (story here )

On 8/4 two victims were unloading supplies from their truck for delivery to a restaurant on Palmer Ave, when they were accosted by a male brandishing a black pistol. The suspect, who had concealed his face, ordered the two individuals to remain at the side of the truck while a second suspect entered the cab of the truck and attempted to gain cash from a safe installed in the vehicle. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the two perpetrators fled the scene on foot.

VEHICLE & TRAFFIC LAW ARREST

A Tarrytown woman was arrested on 8/5 and charged with operating with a suspended license and a suspended registration after he was observed operating her vehicle on Larchmont Ave. The vehicle was impounded and the operator released on $50 bail.

LARCENY

A contractor performing work on a Helena Ave residence reported on 8/6 someone removed power tools, valued at $1000, from an unsecured garage where he was housing them.

 

 

RYE

HARRASSMENT

Joseph VanCook, 42, told police on Monday that he has received harassing phone calls from his wife, who was arrested last month for allegedly assaulting him in their Trails End home.
Susan VanCook, also 42, allegedly hit her husband in the head with a wine bottle and bit him in their home on July 11. She was charged with two misdemeanors. He was treated for his injuries at Greenwich Hospital, and staff notified police.
The incident was widely reported by the media.
Police noted that VanCook has a valid order of protection against his wife, but did not believe that order had been violated by the phone calls.


LARCENY
Five ornamental plants were stolen from The Ives on North Street sometime over the weekend. August 9

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A staff worker at the Greenwood Union Cemetery told police that items were found on the grounds that may have been used in a satanic ritual. The worker said red and white candles, a goat head, cigars, candy and exotic fruits were found. No damage was reported to any of the monuments. August 9

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
A car parked on Old Post Road was egged inside and out, and the home was also egged at about 2:30 a.m. The resident said a dog woke him up and he saw a black car and two boys, who fled the scene. August 10

TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
A 49-year-old Jersey City man was charged with operating a motor vehicle with broken glass and operating a commercial motor vehicle without proper endorsements at about 2 p.m. on Milton Road. August 12

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
A Park Avenue man said the side window of his car was damaged while it was parked on Van Rensselaer Road near Island Drive in the early afternoon.  A small rock was found in the front seat. August 12

AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT
A Milton Road woman said an unknown man called and threatened her at about 10 p.m., saying he was right down the block. August 12

BURGLARY
Two flat-screen televisions, valued at about $1,500, and a home computer, valued at $500, were stolen from a Grandview Avenue home around midnight on Aug. 12. Police said the front door was ajar and the residents were away. A screen on a window at the rear of the home was found to have holes. On Aug. 15, the owners discovered that additional property was missing from their garage.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
Obscene drawings and words were spray-painted in the skate park on Midland Avenue. August 13

LARCENY
A Dearborn Avenue resident said two bicycles were stolen from his garage sometime overnight. August 15

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
An unknown person spray-painted graffiti on the walls of the bathroom stalls at Nursery Field on Milton Road. August 16

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
A school district employee said the shingles and a water drain on the roof of Milton School on Hewlett Avenue were damaged by unknown parties who climbed onto the roof overnight.  In addition, paint was dropped from the roof, causing damage to the blacktop area at the rear of the school. August 16

FRAUD
A Charlotte Street man said a charge of $61.05 was made on one of his bank accounts and then transferred to an account that didn’t belong to him. August 16

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
A Hughes Avenue woman said an unknown person smeared dog excrement all over her house and car sometime overnight. She noted that the person would have had to climb up onto the second story to accomplish some of the damage. August 17

Graffiti was found on the playground equipment at Hyatt Field at about 4:30 p.m. August 9

IDENTITY THEFT
A Heathcote Road resident said an unknown person tried to open a Bank of America account using his social security number. August 10

ARREST
A 39-year-old Madison Road man turned himself in on charges of third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, at about 1:45 p.m. Police said the charges resulted from an altercation with his wife. August 10

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
Police received a report of a coyote on Deerfield Lane at about 4:50 p.m. They were unable to locate the animal. August 10

NOISE COMPLAINT
A Bradford Road resident said she was at home with some friends when uninvited guests tried to enter her residence at about 10 p.m., prompting a neighbor to call police complaining of a large group of youths drinking and making a lot of noise. Police found no sign of alcohol on the premises. Police searched the area with negative results. August 10

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A caller reported a coyote in the area of Weinberg Nature Center on Mamaroneck Road at about 1:30 a.m. Police were unable to locate the animal. August 11

ASSIST CITIZEN
A Colvin Road woman said her son believed someone was in their home at about 1 p.m. Police checked the interior of the home and found all to be in good order. August 11

LARCENY
A company credit card issued to a former Balducci’s employee has apparently been put to good use over the past six months. Police said the card, which was thought to have been canceled in February, has been used to charge $34,751.34. The matter remains under investigation. August 10

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A Fairview Road resident reported three youths in a parked car with the lights off at about 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, police found three males who said they were killing time before they had to be home. Police did not observe any suspicious activity. August 12

NOISE COMPLAINT
A caller complained of loud music in the area of Olmsted Road and Tory Lane at about 7:30 a.m. Police found all in order upon arrival. August 12

NOISE COMPLAINT
A Carman Road resident complained of loud youths at about 7:15 p.m. Police found several youths playing basketball on the roadway who were not making an unreasonable amount of noise. August 12

AUTO ACCIDENT
A Post Road resident called police to report a car in his garden at about 3 a.m. The driver, a 23-year-old Eastchester resident, told police he lost control of his 2001 Ford while attempting to avoid an accident with another car. Police said the man crashed through a fence, drove over the front lawn and struck a tree before coming to a rest. No charges were filed. August 13

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A Secor Road resident said she heard someone at her front door at about 6:45 a.m. Police arrived and checked the exterior of the home and found no sign of an attempted entry. August 13

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A caller reported a vagrant shouting near the train tracks at about 6:45 a.m. Police were unable to locate the subject. August 13

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A 52-year-old homeless man who appeared to be intoxicated was transported to White Plains Hospital at about 3 p.m. after police received a report of a man yelling and screaming in the street in the area of East Parkway and Spencer Place. August 13

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A Leatherstocking Lane resident said he saw a coyote passing through the area at about 6 p.m. The man said the coyote was not aggressive or hostile. Police were unable to locate the animal. August 13

NOISE COMPLAINT
A caller complained of loud music in the area of Crest Lane and Heathcote Road at about 6:15 p.m. Police could not hear any loud music or noise in the area. August 13

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A caller reported a coyote in the area of Continental Road and Colonial Road at about 8:30 p.m. Police were unable to locate the animal. August 13

NOISE COMPLAINT
A caller complained of loud youths at about 11:45 p.m at Hyatt Field. Police found youths on the street making very little noise. They left the area without incident. August 13

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A Corell Road resident said an SUV was repeatedly driving past her home at about midnight and at one point pulled into her driveway to turn around. Police checked the area and were unable to locate the vehicle. August 14

LARCENY
A Fox Meadow Road resident said his GPS was taken from his 2009 Subaru Outback while it was parked at Balducci’s on Palmer Avenue sometime on Aug. 13.

LOST PROPERTY
A Lockwood Road resident said her diamond engagement ring was missing but was unsure if it was misplaced or stolen. August 14

FRAUD
A Walworth Avenue woman said an unknown person tried to withdraw $3,950 from her bank account using a fraudulent check. August 14

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A passerby said youths were placing debris, possibly an alcoholic beverage, at the dead end of Sylvan Lane and Magnolia Road at about 2:15 p.m. Police checked the area and found no youths, debris or alcoholic beverages. August 14

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A Cooper Road resident said a blue van with tinted windows was idling in front of his house at about 3:15 p.m. The man said the van sped off when he approached it with his dog. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. August 14

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A Rural Drive resident said she saw a large gray coyote in her backyard at about 4:30 p.m. The woman said the coyote did not appear to be sick. Police could not locate the animal. August 14

YOUTH COMPLAINT
Police found youths hitting golf balls in the Greenacres School field at about 5:45 p.m. The youths said they would stop, and no further police action was necessary. August 14

NOISE COMPLAINT
A passerby reported noisy youths playing basketball at Edgewood School at about 9 p.m. The youths left the area upon police arrival. August 14

LARCENY
A 46-year-old man who was staying with relatives on Popham Road said $4,000 was missing from a backpack that he left in the home. Police said the man and his hosts went out at about 10 a.m. on August 13 and returned at 2 p.m., when he noticed his cash was missing. There was no sign of forced entry in the home. The matter remains under investigation. August 14

NOISE COMPLAINT
A Church Lane resident complained of a loud party at about midnight on Stonehouse Road. Police spoke with the homeowner, who said his daughter’s birthday party was winding down. Police observed the guests leaving the area. August 15

YOUTH COMPLAINT
An Overhill Road resident said youths were drinking in a parked car at about midnight. Police were unable to locate the subjects. August 15

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
A Kelwynne Road resident was awakened first by a thud and then the sound of her house alarm just after midnight. According to police, a large rock was thrown through one of her windows. At about 12:30 a.m., White Plains police arrested three teens and charged them each with two counts of third-degree criminal mischief. Scarsdale Detective Lt. Bryant Clark said the Kelwynne Road case is believed to be related. August 15

ASSIST OTHER AGENCY
Mamaroneck police reported a car in the area of Mamaroneck Road and Griffen Avenue that had been involved in an accident and requested a check for the vehicle at about 5:30 a.m. Police were unable to locate the car. August 15

HIT AND RUN
A Springdale Road resident said an unknown person struck his Jeep while it was parked in the Crossway Field tennis lot at 300 Mamaroneck Road at about 11:40 a.m. August 15

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A Chesterfield Road resident said she heard something fall outside her bedroom window at about 10:15 p.m. Police checked the interior and exterior of the home and found everything to be in order. August 15

A Sage Terrace resident said his wife received a threatening voicemail on their home phone. August 15

A Heathcote Road resident said an unknown person broke a window on her 2004 Toyota and stole her computer. August 16

A Tyler Road resident said an unknown person broke a window on his 2005 Honda and stole his camera.  August 16

LARCENY
A window was broken on a 1998 Audi parked on the corner of Foxhall Road and Wynmor Road and an iPod was stolen. August 16
