Crime of the week:.  Police in Scarsdale received  20 calls reporting coyote sightings from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4. Some reports cited solo animals roaming residents’ lawns, while others

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

reported pairs. None of the animals spotted caused any harm, however. Rather, they were usually long gone by the time officers arrived to check them out.

 

 

 

Rye Arson

Police are looking for suspects in an arson attack on a Forest Avenue home Sept. 29.The incident occurred just after midnight when a family awoke to a crashing

noise downstairs and found a large fire in their living room.  Investigators determined that a “Molotov cocktail” tossed through the living room window started the fire.

GRAND LARCENY

 

Radio equipment worth thousands of dollars was stolen from Jarden Westchester Triathlon organizers on Sept. 26 at Rye Town Park.  The equipment included 20 walkie-talkies, worth $520 each, and four Nextel phones, worth $525 each.

 

FALSE REPORTING OF A CRIME

 

A woman was charged with falsely reporting a crime on Sept. 28 after claiming to Apawamis Avenue residents that she was punched and robbed.  The woman rang residents’ doorbells, saying she was hurt and had no money.  Police became suspicious after the woman’s story changed and after police visited the apartment of a man she had met on the Internet the night before.

 

LARCENY FROM VEHICLE

About $10 in cash was stolen on Sept. 29 or 30 from a car parked on Greenhaven Road.

 

THEFT FROM BUILDING

 A man’s credit cards – which were subsequently used to charge thousands of dollars – were stolen Oct. 2 from a locker at the Apawamis Club.  The man left his wallet in the locker while playing golf between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.  He did not realize the cards were stolen until receiving an online receipt from the Apple computer store in Stamford.  Charges of $2,600 and $1,325 were made to the cards.

LARCENY

A woman shopping at the CVS on Boston Post Road stole crackers and a candy bar from the store Oct. 3

 

LARCENY

Two bicycles and a children’s car were stolen from a Richbell Road apartment building Oct. 1.  The vehicles, worth together about $340, were taken from a bike rack in the building basement.

An Aspen Road resident reported seeing a coyote in her yard on Sept. 27

A resident reported seeing a coyote near the intersection of Cushman and Mamaroneck roads Sept. 28.  The animal was seen running away through the woods when police arrived.
