Rumorville: Tri-Out?

editrix: the triathlon will be held October 3.

 

Dear Editrix:

I’ve heard a rumor that the late summer kids triathlon through the Village of Mamaroneck

 

will not be held this year.  Can you shed some light on this?  I heard the VOL was pushing back due to the expense, but that the sponsor (Mamk Schools Foundation) has always reimbursed the Village for the expenses.  Many kids will be heartbroken if this is cancelled!

editrix: theLoop staff asked Maureen LeBlanc, who runs the triathlon for the Schools Foundation if this is true. her response:

 

Actually, the decision as to whether or not it’s possible to hold a triathlon during the 2009-2010 school year is still up in the air.  We’ve typically held the triathlon in late September.  However, we have had a hard time finding a date that works simply because of the calendar this year.  In particular, school starts late, Rosh Hashanah falls on a weekend, and the village’s community day (which includes Truck Day and the Village Arts Festival) falls on the last saturday in September. 

 

We are going to be meeting with the Village Board on Monday (June 8) to revisit the issue and see if there are any possible weekends, perhaps in early October.
