As anyone under the age of 30 knows, New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight saga, opens this Friday after much anticipation for thousands of screaming fans (myself included), so go check out the mobs of people wearing “Team Edward” and “Team Jacob” t-shirts at New Roc and City Center…

This weekend is the big weekend for most high school drama queens.  Definitely go on over and support your local high school’s talent – your tax money paid for that set anyway! 

THANKSGIVING IS THE START OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON:

The Twig of Westchester County will be having its annual holiday fair at Coveleigh Club on Friday and Saturday this weekend.  There will be over forty vendors/boutiques to help you with your holiday shopping, as well as a silent auction, a raffle, and even Santa.  The proceeds of the event will benefit healthcare organizations in the community, including Rye, Rye Brook, Portchester, and Harrison EMS. 

In honor of Thanksgiving, the Rye Nature Center is having a “Native American and Colonial Foods Program” on Saturday from 2 to 4 pm.  Bring your kids to prepare (and  eat!) the kind of food that was made when the first Thanksgiving feast took place. 

This is a big weekend for holiday shopping events at religious establishments.  Check out your local churches and synagogues for details.  Just to name a few that I know of – St. John the Less in Scarsdale, Mamaroneck Union Methodist Church in Mamaroneck, St. John’s Episcopal Church in Larchmont, and WJC in Mamaroneck. 

A portion of the sales made this weekend at Learning Express in Scarsdale will benefit the Alcott School, “a non-profit education leader in early childhood education for over 40 years,” so head over and get your gift shopping done there this weekend.  www.alcottschool.org

The Presbyterian Church of New Rochelle is having its 30^th Annual Fall Concert: Celebration of Praise and Thanksgiving on Sunday at 4 pm.  The program will include the Sound Shore Chorale singing several selections, including Mozart and Henry Purcell.  Tickets are $12 – $15.

Shaarei Tikvah is hosting an interfaith thanksgiving service, which will be run by the Interfaith Clergy Association of Scarsdale-Hartsdale.  The service will start at 7 pm on Sunday night.  Several clergymen will be delivering sermons, and there will be music and prayer for all denominations as well. 

 

ART & MUSIC:

The Rye Free Reading Room has a new art exhibit through December 31^st: Allan Curry, American Impressionist.  The opening reception will be held this Sunday from 2 – 4 and will be open to the public. 

On Sunday, November 22 at 3:00pm, The Larchmont Avenue Church (60 Forest Park Ave. across from the Chatsworth Avenue School) will present a recital of music for Piano Trio (piano, violin, and cello). The program comprises some lesser-known masterpieces by Horatio Parker and Charles Marie Widor and features Zoe Hassman, cellist, Kelly Hall-Tompkins, violinist, and Douglas Kostner,  pianist. Come for an afternoon of beautiful music! Admission $10.

On Friday night, Donna the Buffalo will be performing at Emelin.  This wonderful band has been playing reggae/Cajun/rock/country/folk music for it’s “herd” of followers for 17 years and is definitely going to be a blast to see in concert.  The show is at 8 pm and tickets are $45.

ArtsWestchester’s Art Exchange will be having a three day exhibition: Looking at Architechture.  It will be an impressive exhibit of major architectural projects that have taken place recently and in the area for this weekend only. 

The David Brandom Quartet will be playing on Friday night and the Vinny Valentino Trio will be playing on Saturday night at the Watercolor Café.  No Excuse will be playing live at the Post Bar and Grill in Mamaroneck on Saturday.  Bela Fleck will be playing at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peeksill on Friday night for $25 – $45.

The Westchester Philharmonic will be playing at the Purchase college performing arts center on Saturday night at 6:45 and on Sunday afternoon, with famous and fantastic violinist Itzhak Perlman as the conductor and Andrew McGill on the clarinetist.  Tickets are between $25 and $85. 

On Saturday night, Adam James: A Toast To Ol’ Blue Eyes will be taking on the stage of the Emelin in the first musical theater event about the life of legendary singer Frank Sinatra.  James, a singer/songwriter himself, will be singing and telling stories about Sinatra.  The show starts at 8 pm and tickets are $45. 

AND… On 2 pm on Saturday, The Rye Free Reading Room will be hosting an event for kids called “Kids Think Green At the Library.”  Author Janine Behr Getz will be reading from her book “Think Green!” and everyone will make a green arts and crafts project to take home.  Copies of the book will be available to purchase and have signed by the author.
