When School Buses Walk

Ever hear of the Leatherstocking Loop Troop, the Lafeyette Loch Ness Monsters or the Lansdowne Legs?
all have in common? We’re talking Murray Avenue School (Larchmont) walking school buses. This week, in honor of International Walk To School Day, 35 groups of students, 170 children, walked to school together, in groups known as "walking school buses."
A walking school bus is a group of children from at least two families that pledges to walk or bike to school together every Wednesday throughout the school year. Buses range in size from two walkers to as many as 16. Walking school buses were introduced at Murray last year as a way to promote wellness, help the environment and build a strong sense of community.
